  • Watchdog List | Awake Illinois

Awake Illinois is happy to shed light on the following list. We aim to celebrate citizens, advocates, and leaders who are effecting positive change in their communities and throughout the state. To submit a suggestion for our quarterly Awake Warrior Award please email info@awakeil.com . Attorney Thomas DeVore The Inaugural recipient of the award was presented to Attorney Thomas DeVore on March 26, 2022. Tom was the only attorney in IL who educated parents and citizens on the law and empowered them to litigate for due process. Governor Pritzker called him a "grifter". We call him a "winner". Congrats, Tom! Minister, Homeschool, Candidate for Mayor of Chicago Latasha is a warrior advocating for Education and Parental Rights. Her faith and ministry is having an AMAZING impact on many young souls in the south side of Chicago. Student Warrior Addison G. Voices like Addison are inspiring a generation. Awake Illinois is pleased to present her with the Advancing Freedom Award honoring her commendable advocacy for Students' Rights and Civil Liberties. She bravely spoke to the local school board on behalf of her peers and attended a conference in D.C. as a result of speaking up. Student Warrior Leslie Mendoza The leadership of this young lady is inspiring advocacy across the state and country. She is unwavering in her convictions and we are so pleased to recognize her commendable advocacy for Students' Rights and Civil Liberties. Leslie is a campus coordinator with Turning Point USA, a stellar academic student, and an amazing public speaker. Congrats, Leslie! Pastor Corey Brooks, New Beginnings Church Pastor Brooks (Rooftop Pastor), Pastor Brooks has lived in tents since Nov 2021 to draw attention to the need to raise money to replace a motel with a community center in the Woodlawn neighborhood. After raising $20 million, he has enough money to build the center which will "Help Others Obtain Destiny" (HOOD). Congrats, Pastor Corey! Tara Neilsen Ms. Neilsen has been educating the Lake in the Hills community on the drag queen entertainment being held with minors present at a local bakery. Her peaceful advocacy aims to protect children from exploitation, which isn't for the faint of heart. Congrats, Tara! Mr. Jeff Wynn Mr. Wynn felt called to protect children from the National Sex Ed Standards by calling IL school administrators regarding the concerns over the passing of Senate Bill 818. He created an excel sheet and tirelessly worked to update it when schools were deciding to adopt these sex ed standards. the sheet was integral to the Awake IL "opt out" campaign. Thanks to his efforts, more advocates took a stand to defend children. More than half of the 800+ districts opted out but the number may increase if we let down our guard. Jeff is running for Morris Community High School Board of Education. Congrats, Jeff! Sen. Darren Bailey and Mrs. Cindy Bailey Sen. along with his wife Cindy Bailey traversed IL with an inspiring and faithful grassroots campaign for Governor. They brought a lot of hope to Illinois families and communities. We applaud their efforts to Restore Illinois! Any and all grassroots group, parental rights advocates, and pro-constitution citizens. Groups from outside IL are also welcome. After years of government overreach and an Illinois General Assembly that has let Governor Pritzker rule by tyranny, We the People, are a united force. Whether you are a small community group or a larger statewide effort, we will restore IL together. See Coalition Groups listed below. What is the goal? This event will symbolize that regular people are THE voice in Illinois. Many of us are feeling like political orphans in the wake of harmful pandemic policies, anti-child agendas, and woke ideologies led by democrats and barely fought by weak republicans. The time is now to ensure a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Our children cannot advocate for themselves, so we must take a stand for them. The General Election is November 8, 2022. Wherever you fall in the political spectrum, join us as Americans who have HOPE for Illinois and the future of our country. How will we convey the message? This event will be a RESPECTFUL and professional display of thought leaders and advocates. Anyone displaying contrary behavior will be asked to detach from the caravan. From testimony to inspirational calls to action, this will be an illustration of the HOPE we have the Land of Lincoln. All signage must be carried ; no affixing to any part of capitol grounds is allowed. Invitations will be send to select political candidates who have championed liberty, due process, and parental rights. What are the main issues? Parental Rights Sex Ed/Gender Ideology Education Freedom Safe Communities/Crime Government Overreach/Smaller Government Modernized Infrastructure Pro-America/Anti-Marxism Why the "Common Sense Caravan"? To solve the biggest problems plaguing Illinois merely takes COMMON SENSE. We invite state and local leadership to bring HOPE to Illinois by working alongside the coalition on reasonable solutions that will protect children, make for safer communities, promote parental rights, improve educational outcomes, reduce government bloat, and modernize our state infrastructure. • CRT/EQUALITY | Awake Illinois

Policy on Equality and Civil Rights in Education Policy first introduced by Awake IL President June 21, 2021: Anyone advocating for equality in education is welcome to download, print, and propose this policy to your own school district/agency. This proposal is adapted from the Citizens for Renewing America template and is provided to you by Awake IL for consideration as an established policy/resolution. It is comprehensive in its definitions of “critical theory” and divisive curricula. It protects students and staff from participation in the defined divisive concepts. It stipulates the liabilities of policy violations. It incorporates a clause that will protect taxpayer funds from going towards defined divisive concepts. Awake IL looks forward to seeing school districts/affiliated agencies establish either this statement or a similar policy to ensure all students and staff are treated fairly under the Constitution of the United States of America, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights. UPDATE Nov. 2021: New Petition Sheet to gather community signatures prior to requesting the school district adopt the policy. UPDATE May 2022: Read and download the Southeastern Legal Foundation Parents Guide to Your Child's Rights in Education.
